Help Feingold pick a Senate contender

The invitation to another round of voting for a Progressive Patriot to receive some cash support from Russ Feingold's PAC is in our "In" boxes today. This time it's the Senate challengers who are eligible. Can we share our thoughts?

The roster is below the fold.

Sheldon Whitehouse (Rhode Island)
Jim Webb (Virginia)
Jon Tester (Montana)
Bernie Sanders (Vermont)
Barbara Ann Radnofsky (Texas)
Jim Pederson (Arizona)
Claire McCaskill (Missouri)
Ned Lamont (Connecticut)
Amy Klobuchar (Minnesota)
Dale Groutage (Wyoming)
Harold Ford, Jr. (Tennessee)
Erik Fleming (Mississippi)
Bob Casey (Pennsylvania)
Jack Carter (Nevada)
Ben Cardin (Maryland)
Sherrod Brown (Ohio)
Jean Hay Bright (Maine)
Pete Ashdown (Utah)

Well, here's my first pass at winnowing.

I appreciate the courtesy that led to given token spots on this list to Erik Fleming, Jean Hay Bright, Pete Ashdown, Barbara Ann Radnofsky, and Dale Groutage, but none of these races is close enough, this near to Election Day, to benefit appreciably by an injection of $5,000.

I would rule out Jim Peterson on the grounds that funding isn't his problem.

I would rule out Casey and Harold Ford on the grounds that they don't have enough `progressive' credentials to win a popularity contest from Russ's constituency.

I would rule out Amy Klobuchar and Bernie Sanders because they appear at present to have comfortable leads over their opponents.

That leaves Sheldon Whitehouse, Jim Webb, Jon Tester, Claire McCaskill, Ned Lamont, Jack Carter, Ben Cardin, and Sherrod Brown. I can see an argument for each, but I lean at the moment toward McCaskill or Whitehouse, as races where money is critical, momentum is needed, and the seat is winnable. I'd like to hear what the rest of you think, before I vote?
