GOP hands us CO-07 on a silver platter

Ed Perlmutter, CO-07 gets boost - from the GOP candidate

Election Central has the story. In another of these delicious pratfalls that the Republicans have pulled by nominating a Club for Growth wingjob, it turns out that the Republican running in CO-07, Rick O'Donnell, is on the record as wanting Social Security not just trimmed or reformed or semi-privatized, but dismantled:

http://electioncentral.tpmcafe.com/blog/ electioncentral/2006/aug/29/co_07_dccc_s lams_odonnell_on_social_security_in_new_ mailing#comment

A mailing sent out by the DCCC in aid of Perlmutter's campaign:

quotes O'Donnell "in his own words" saying that "Social Security must be abolished" and that "it is time to slay the largest government `entitlement' program of all, Social Security."

As Bruce Webb comments in the thread on Election Central (snipped a bit for brevity's sake),

The only thing that troubles most Americans about Social Security is that they think its financing is in trouble. If they just understood that Social Security was in fact in perfectly fine shape ... privatizers would discover that there is plenty of juice left in that Third Rail. That kind of inviting smell of roasting meat wafting around? It's elephants who have inadvertently backed up onto Social Security's electrified Rail.

GOP Privatizers! It's What's for Dinner.

Oh, I foresee that Colorado is going to be the gift that never stopped giving, after 2004.

Re: GOP hands us CO-07 on a silver platter (3.00 / 1)

What this diary needs is a link to Ed Perlmutter.

This is a very competitive district- it is considered the least gerrymandered district in the nation.

I was in the 07th when Ed won the primary. That evening my 87 year old mother-in-law (rabid rightwinger) pissed us off, so the next morning we got in the rental car and drove the short drive to Ed's headquarters and gave the campaign $50.00.

Speaking of such things, if you can afford it, there is a link on Perlmutter's web page  to donate on right hand side.

Thanks much for supplying the carelessly omitted link to the candidate's web page.

Can we get your annoying in-law to say something nasty about Bill Winter or Angie Paccione, too?

/snark

Thought that may comfort. I hope this won't strike you as insensitive. But when my late father passed on, one of the small comforts in a generally painful period was methodically tearing up all the solicitations from the GOP that had piled up on his desk during his last illness.

Re: CO-07 on a silver platter (none / 0)

I am planning on making the rest of my donations to my local Florida candidates. But if  you know of any firm looking to hire a RE attorney in the Co- 07th, I'd definitely consider moving, even if it means being closer to my Mother-in-law the rabid rightwinger.

And no it it is not insensitive. I am grateful to know I am not the only one with rightwinger inlaws!

And today... (3.00 / 2)

DailyKos has the scoop

Apparently Perlmutter has been digging through Rick O'Donnell's policy papers from the past.  Today's gem comes from a 2004 paper, where ROD advocates "a new rite of passage" for boys in their senior year of high school.  Rick advocates taking boys out of their last semester of high school, and sending them to patrol the border!

"instead of wasting time in 12th grade.....(teenage boys) would undergo a society-wide rite of passage into manhood, one that provides.....a sense of adventure and risk."

ROD advocates that this will save billions of dollars in "wasted" schooling.

Re: favorite of soccer moms everywhere (none / 0)

I passed that nugget of info on to a low-information voter I work with who has teenage sons. Her eyes positively lit up with indignation and Democratic ire. Hope it works that way in CO-07.

Register all the moms you can!
(good policy, nine times out of ten, anyway...)

Re: Ed Perlmutter CO-07 on new ActBlue page (none / 0)

Nathaniel Ament Stone, who always knows what he's doing, put Perlmutter on a slate of close races at:

Well worth a look. I recommend it.
